TREATMENTS & SERVICES

Alternative Medicine

Alternative medicine, also known as complementary medicine, includes the application of natural products, mind and body practices, chiropractic manipulation, and massage.

Natural product examples include dietary supplements and herbal remedies. These treatments use ingredients found in nature. Herbs and supplements can be taken as teas, oils, syrups, powders, tablets or capsules.

Approaches to alternative medicine focus on a system, rather than just a single practice or remedy. Examples of these approaches include:

  • Ancient healing systems – These healing systems arose long before conventional Western medicine and include Ayurveda from India and traditional Chinese medicine.
  • Homeopathy – This approach uses very small doses of a drug that causes symptoms to stimulate the body’s self-healing response.
  • Naturopathy – This approach focuses on noninvasive treatments to help your body do its own healing and uses a variety of practices, such as massage, acupuncture, herbal remedies, exercise and lifestyle counseling.

Gentle Chiropractic

The goal of gentle chiropractic, also known as spinal mobilization, is the same as traditional spinal manipulation – to restore or to enhance joint function. However, unlike spinal manipulation, slow movement, usually to a firm endpoint of joint movement, is used to mobilize the joint.

Gentle Chiropractic is preferred for certain patients for a variety of reasons:

  • Patient preference – certain patients prefer spinal mobilization over spinal manipulation
  • Patients with sensitive nervous systems may benefit from gentle chiropractic techniques to keep the body from overreacting and causing reactive muscle spasms
  • Patients with some conditions may be contraindicated for spinal manipulation, such as possibly patients with advanced osteoporosis, bone pathology, some forms of deformity, and certain types of inflammatory arthritis
  • Chiropractors may choose spinal mobilization for patients when they are in the acute stage of their condition and in severe pain
  • Obesity can make the positioning of the patient and the manipulation procedures challenging, which might favor a low force technique.

Acupuncture

Acupuncture is a Chinese medical practice that treats illness or provides local anesthesia. The goal is to restore normalcy to the body`s energy balance by utilizing a combination of Acupoints located on the twelve meridians. This is accomplished by a variety of means, the needle is just one.

Depression & Anxiety Protocol

Dr. Zlotea’s approach is to find and resolve the underlying causes of depression and anxiety that created the problems in the first place, intensified it, and prevented recovery. This approach solves the underlying issues and keeps the problems away for long-term improvement in your quality of life.

Infrared Light Therapy

Infrared light therapy harnesses the healing power of infrared wavelengths of light. When infrared energy is delivered to injury sites and other painful areas, it dramatically increases circulation, reduces inflammation and promotes healing. Nitric oxide is the key to the dramatic improvements that this therapy provides. This short-lived gas is crucial to the health of your arteries. The light prompts the release of nitric oxide which enhances blood flow, bringing oxygen and nutrients to injured, aching tissues and resulting in faster healing.

Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy is a science-based methodology takes a ‘whole person’ approach to health and wellbeing, which includes the patient’s general lifestyle to help restore your aching, stiff, dysfunctional muscles and joints back to health.  Hands-on physiotherapy techniques include joint mobilization (gentle gliding), joint manipulation, physiotherapy instrument mobilization, minimal energy techniques, muscle stretching, neurodynamics, massage, and soft tissue techniques.

Neurologic Relief Centers Technique

Dr. Zlotea`s procedure involves relieving the meningeal compression. It is a series of techniques that are applied at the appropriate times. Some of these are modifications of standard techniques and some we have developed. Our objective is to free up the neurological structures that are being encroached upon, thus allowing the brain and spinal cord to return to normal function. In most cases, there is little or no pain associated with this procedure.

Spinal Decompression Therapy

Spinal Decompression therapy is a new non-surgical technology utilizing an advanced computer controlled traction system. This system has been clinically proven to be extremely effective in relieving neck, back, arm and leg pain provoked by spinal disc disease and arthritis. Spinal Decompression creates negative pressure within the intervertebral disc. This promotes increased nutritional support to the disc which enhances the body’s ability to heal itself and in many cases can reduce the size of disc bulges and herniated discs. Decompression therapy is also extremely effective in relieving joint pressure associated with arthritis.

MyoFascial Disruption Technique

MyoFascial Disruption Technique (MFDT) is a hands-on approach to treating soft tissue injuries. MFDT recognizes that most, if not all, soft tissue injuries are a result of a separation or a disruption of the fascia. [fascia – a sheet or band of fibrous connective tissue enveloping, separating, or binding together muscles, organs, and other soft structures of the body.]

The fascia can separate at the origin or insertion of a tendon or ligament. The fascia can separate within the muscle in a band like separation. It can ‘wrinkle’ like a shirt pulled out from your hamper. It can ‘un-coil’ in the extremities like a twisted slinky toy. Dr. Zlotea repairs the fascia by ‘ironing the wrinkle’, meaning he re-attaches the fascia which eliminates your pain.

Ultrasound Therapy

Ultrasonic waves (sound waves of a high frequency) are produced by means of mechanical vibration of the metal treatment head of the ultrasound machine. This treatment head is then moved over the surface of the skin in the region of the injury. When sound waves come into contact with air it causes a dissipation of the waves, and so a special ultrasound gel is placed on the skin to ensure maximal contact between the treatment head and the surface of the skin.

Traditional Chiropractic Adjustment

Treatment usually consists of a series of spinal adjustments using hand or instrument-delivered force into the affected vertebra(e) to restore alignment and mobility to that area.

Electric Muscle Stimulation

Electric Muscle Stimulation (EMS) mimics your body’s nervous system by sending safe, low frequency electrical pulses to your affected area, causing the muscle to contract, increase temperature and blood circulation. Your body’s natural process to repair injuries works with EMS to relieve common nervous system disorders, including constant headaches, numbness of limbs, back pain and neck pain.

Laser Therapy

Low Level Laser Therapy refers to the modality of applying a low energy or low level laser to tissue that stimulates cellular processes and thereby enhances biochemical reactions. For example, studies show that LLLT increases ATP production in the mitochondria of the cell. Since more energy is now available, the cell may utilize this fuel to function or operate more efficiently.

Graston Technique

Graston Technique is an innovative, evidence-based form of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization that enables clinicians to detect and effectively break down scar tissue and fascial restrictions, as well as maintain optimal range of motion.

Chiropractic Traction

Chiropractic traction is a therapeutic option for patients who are suffering from cervical, low back, or radiating pain that is caused by bulging or herniated discs or disc degenerative disorder. By applying force to the patient`s spine through body weight, weights, and/or pulleys, a chiropractor is able to gently stretch the spine and draw apart the vertebrae.

Trigger Point Therapy

Trigger point therapy is a body work technique that involves the applying of pressure to tender muscle tissue in order to relieve pain and dysfunction in other parts of the body. Sometimes massage and trigger point therapy are performed together.
